Zach decided to play some of the west coast tournaments this year, so instead of going back and forth between California and Georgia we rented a house in La Quinta (in the Palm Springs area) and stayed there during our off weeks. It was beautiful weather and we had a great time!
Flying from Iowa to California, we flew over the Grand Canyon
We went to the Living Desert (a zoo) a few times. Wyatt and I checking out the giraffes and ostrich.
The giraffe and ostrich area was awesome. It was up on this hill and how the sun hit it and with the mountains in the background it looked pretty cool!
Wyatt running after a goat in the petting area.
I think he was pointing at a leopard or probably even a bird or a plane not in the zoo…
The second time we went to the zoo was Will's birthday. One of our friends on tour has a father-in-law who is on the board at the zoo, so he got us a private tour of the zoo that included feeding the giraffes in the morning before they went out for the day!
We climbed some stairs to the second level so we could be more at their height. When I was home for Christmas, Jaycee gave me Flat Stanley (a 3rd grade class project) to take with me. So, of course Flat Stanley had to get in on the action!
Wyatt and I feeding the giraffes. They had really long tongues!
This was really cool!
Then we got to go in a special room to get a better up close view of the leopards. There was just a thick piece of glass separating us and the leopards. The lady told us they love little kids cause they look like a snack! So, they were eyeing Wyatt…yikes!
Flat Stanley got to see them!
