NYC for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

For my mom's 60th birthday this year, Dad wanted to surprise her with a trip to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.  It is one of the things that she has always wanted to do, so what better time!  We decided it would just be the 5 of us and we go for 3 or 4 days.  We told her in October when we were all home and so she had plenty of time to prepare.  It was a blast!  Although we missed Nate, Conley and Shay it was neat to have just us 5.  We hadn't been on a vacation just the 5 of us since high school.  Hang in there, I posted a lot of pics…just had so many good ones!

Best parents ever!

Bryant Park had a great ice skating rink (none of us ice skated this trip) and a bunch of cute little shops

On our walk from the hotel to go see the broadway show Wicked we overheard a concert going on in Rockefeller Center so we walked over to check it out and it was the Biebs!! OMG!  hahaha.  Jamie, Sara and I got a kick out of all the screaming girls.  Dad said he had just heard of his name the week before!  ha

Headed into Wicked.  It was so good!

This was at 6:30am when we first found our spot along the parade route.  We were just up from times square.

Sara was a little tired, so I guess she was trying to get some sleep, but not sure how she could have

Jamie, Dad and I played many games of I Spy! haha

Let the parade begin!!  We were there on the 85th anniversary

Mom was loving it!

Watch out Sara!

The balloons were huge!

Scotty McCreery was in the parade

Mary J. Blige's float

As you can see, all the space we had from the first photo quickly shrunk when we were about an hour and a half from the start of the parade.  Quick rundown: Left hotel at 6:10am, got to our spot at 6:30am, got Starbucks, 7:30am started to get a little tighter, 9am parade started near Central Park, 9:25am the beginning of the parade got to where we were standing, 11:30am parade was over where we were standing.  Yep, that's right…we stood in one small area on the sidewalk for 5 hours!  Totally worth it though!  We had a blast!

Here comes Santa

Santa's float

Standing in the street after the end of the parade went by us.  You can kind of see the red Macy's balloons in the background down in Times Square

Mom got her wish!

These two never stop talking or look at the camera when they're supposed to!

Jamie after the parade and the day was not even half over and we still had a lot to do!

In front of the Macy's store to check out the windows

Macy's.  I love Christmas!

World Trade Center memorial site

Nothing like a little Mexican and margaritas for Thanksgiving dinner!

In one of the windows at Macy's you could take a picture of yourself like a photo booth

Another shot of Macy's

Jamie and I on the Empire State Building

Mom and Dad on the Empire State Building.  No, we didn't leave Sara out of any photos…heights is not really her thing, so she hung back on this excursion.

Grand Central Station

Walking the Brooklyn bridge.  Of course we did all the tourist things we could fit in

Jamie and Dad looking back at downtown Manhattan

Jamie thought she needed to climb the fence to touch the bull hoping for some good financial luck

Jamie and I climbed a big rock in Central Park

And this was our view.  I loved it there!

What a great place

Best friends in the whole world!

Rockefeller Center Christmas tree and ice skating rink

We surprised mom our last night there with a cake and 6-0 candles

Happy Birthday Mom!  Thanks for always wanting to go see the parade!  It was a great trip!

I made these two take all sorts of crazy photos, mostly just to make them look silly

Best parents ever!
