Jill and Greg's Education Adventure

For about a month and a half the kids had no school/daycare so we had to come up with fun things to do every so often.  Thursday morning, Aug 25, Will and I met Greg, Taylor (one of Will's best friends) and Harper for a fun morning out.  We were going to go to the park, but it was a little too hot that day.  So, we started our morning off at a coffee shop in the village to get some juice then headed over to the lighthouse.  ALL of us went up ALL 129 steps to the top of the lighthouse!  Then we toured the lighthouse museum where the old lighthouse keeper used to live.  Our tickets also got us into the Maritime Museum by East Beach, so of course we drove over there to check that out!  Greg was giving the kids a history lesson throughout the morning and they actually listened and asked questions. It was a great morning out!

Taylor and Will listening to Greg's stories

Still listening as Greg explains what the lighthouse was used for

They really wanted to watch this educational movie about the lighthouse, but they got antsy 2 minutes into it and we were off to climb!  We were surprised they lasted that long!

Going up, Taylor and Will were just ahead of me and Greg brought up the rear carrying Harper the whole way up.

The kids loved seeing the pool, playground and the pier where we go and play often

A view of Jekyll Island.  Taylor and Will always trying to put their arms around each other for pictures!

Greg still going over the history...he knows a lot of cool things about Saint Simons.  I think here he was telling them about a German submarine that hit two of our ships in Saint Simons Sound, the water between SSI and Jekyll.  The kids liked talking about this story.

Getting ready to head back down

On the way down!  Greg and Harper went first then Will and Taylor behind me.  They did really good about going slow and hanging on.  Down was definitely a lot harder than up for the kids!

Checking out how the old lighthouse keeper used to live.  They wanted to know what everything was.

At the Maritime Museum learning about the sailors.

Checking out what kinds of animals live in the area.  A few of animals they were checking out were snapping turtles, snakes, alligators and pelicans.

Of course we had to climb to the top of this building too!  Greg asked Taylor what she learned from the day and she said not to get close to alligators!  We couldn't argue with that, but were hoping they would try to retell one of the history stories.  I think our expectations were too high!

Taylor and Will wanted to go up and down the steep ladder all by them self.

That concludes Jill & Greg's Education Adventure.  Thank you for joining us.  Hope you enjoyed it and even learned something!

Join us next time for……still TBD
